Here is some information for now:
Our English Setter Oreo was diagnosed with Diabetes on Friday March 10, 2006 after I brought her to the vet on Thursday for what I thought was a bladder infection. The urine sample showed sugar, and the resulting blood sample had a level of 584!

So now we're on a beginning routine from the vet that involves a small meal in the morning and 15 units of Humulin-N and a large meal in the late afternoon when the insulin should be peaking.
We've been with our vet for 20 years now and I trust them, and he says they've seen quite a few diabetic animals.
