I own a diabetic cat--Victoria, 8 year old DSH (dilute calico), weighing
in at 16.5 pounds.
She is currently on DM food dry mixed with a bit of T/D for her teeth
(which are very nice and clean, since she loves to eat) as well as
a small amount of canned
DM and treats daily. She is on PZI insulin once daily...I
switched her to that as an
experiment since I never used it...it was off the market already when
I was in school.
I had her on Humulin U before, but I think the PZI is better since
it is so much closer to
their own insulin. I caught her diabetes early, so she never
lost weight from it. And I still
don't know if I induced her diabetes because I had given her 2 steroid
injections for a sore
leg or if she became diabetes cause she is overweight????? Oh
well, so now we are living
with it....she has not had any major problems even when I went on vacation
and my mom
had to give her insulin. And her partner in crime (her littermate,
sister) is Scrungy, medium
hair, gray and white, mentally challenged cat...she is not diabetic--thank
god--because I
would never be able to give her shots....trying Prozac was a real challenge!!!
Since I
moved and separated her from the other 2 cats, she is not quite as
bad (she was not using
her litter box and cries all the time...and I don't know what she is
saying...I did talk to an
animal communicater and she gave me some insight. It was wild!
So things are better.)
I have just gotten FELIWAY http://www.feliway.com/html2/shop.php3/index.html
in the
electric diffuser (plugs in the wall and emits the cat's natural pheromones)
and it has helped
her anxiety and she doesn't cry as much. I love 'em both
even though I have puke piles to
clean up...like right now! OH yuck! Anyway, enough about them...I
will try to track down
some pictures of them....

It is with a sad, heavy heart and tear filled eyes that I write this
e-mail....My beloved VICKI passed away this morning at 4am. I
found her
in a coma on the floor when I got home from work yesterday and managed
to
revive her, but she began to have seizures for which valium would not
control.
Now she is at rest. I will miss her very much.

Vacancy
Your favorite chair is vacant now,
no eager purrs to greet me.
No softly padded paws to run
ecstatically to meet me.
No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry,
will say its time for feeding.
I've put away your bowl
and all the things you won't be needing.
But I will miss you, little friend,
for I could never measure,
the happiness you brought to me,
the comfort and the pleasure.
And since God put you here
to share in earthly joy and sorrow,
I'm sure there'll be a place for you
in heaven's bright tomorrow!
